Leipzig – Since 1 June of this year, Gruber Logistics has deployed its first electric truck for Siemens. This E-truck handles transport within a 100-kilometer radius of the Siemens Smart Infrastructure low-voltage switchgear plant in Leipzig, covering an average of 250 kilometers daily. The emission-free truck, charged at the Leipzig Siemens facility, is powered by electricity generated entirely from renewable sources. Over the course of a year, this results in approximately 60,000 kilometers of emission-free transport.

Gruber Logistics and Siemens AG have a long-standing partnership focused on conducting emission-reduced transports. Siemens already utilizes a Gruber Logistics LNG truck for the established route between Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. Additionally, a Gruber Logistics Bio-LNG truck is used for the route between the metropolis of the German federal state of Hesse and Gütersloh. With the new fully electric vehicle operating in and around the Leipzig Siemens plant, transport is now not only emission-reduced but entirely emission-free.

“The implementation of the electric truck for the Leipzig Siemens plant sets a new standard for resource-efficient logistics. To further develop sustainable transport solutions in the industry, it is essential to have a partner like Siemens who shares our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility,” says Felix Kunath, Executive Director Business Unit Full Truck Load at Gruber Logistics.

Moreover, Kunath highlights that Gruber Logistics pursues a sustainability strategy focused on using alternative fuels such as B100, HVO, or Bio-LNG. Currently, the logistics company employs alternative fuels for 40 percent of its transports. The company also increasingly relies on multimodal solutions – around 30 percent of transports are shifted to rail – and achieves a load saturation of 95 percent for LTL shipments through network and freight optimization.

Martin Fricke, Logistics Manager at the Siemens plant in Leipzig, adds: “We are pleased to have taken another step forward in our sustainability strategy and are proud to offer solutions for e-mobility as a manufacturer of low-voltage switchgear.”
