Where and When

Our second Meetup at the Crosse Keys pub located at 9 Gracechurch Street in the City of London will be on Tuesday 11th April from 6.30 p.m. onwards. The first meeting was regarded as quite successful for an initial meeting at a new location. The increase in numbers appears to show that the decision to change location and day of the meeting was the correct one. We are hopeful that it will be quieter than last time with many workers in the city still on their Easter break.

As a reminder, the pub is an enormous Wetherspoons pub that is only about five minutes walk from Bank station and around ten minutes walk from Liverpool Street station. Is is easily walkable from London Bridge station although it might be worth catching a bus over the bridge and getting off at the first stop after the bridge if one happens to conveniently appear.

For those familiar with the area, the pub is just to the south of Leadenhall Market on the other side of the road.

Directions

From Bank Underground station. If you exit at Bank Junction, where a lot of roadworks connected with pedestrianisation are taking place, we recommend you head for Lombard Street which is just to the left of St Mary Woolnoth Church. There is a short cut possible to the rear entrance of the pub but on the first occasion we recommend continuing to the end of the road and turning left at the traffic lights into Gracechurch Street.

Alternatively, use the new Cannon Street exit, turn left out the station and follow the main road. This is very slightly longer than from the Bank Junction exits but there is not a lot in it.

From Liverpool Street station you need to exit onto Bishopsgate and head south. Look out for Leadenhall Market on you left and the pub is shortly afterwards on your right.

Buses The nearest bus stop is a northbound one. This is Fenchurch Street stop M which is actually on Gracechurch Street. It is only served by route 133 which also serves both London Bridge and Liverpool Street stations. Not so near and further south is Gracechurch St/Monument stop T which is also northbound and is served by buses 35, 47, 149, 344 and 388. Confusingly, opposite stop T is stop U which is the southbound Fenchurch Street stop and is served by 35, 47, 133, 149, 344 and 388.

Food and Drink

We cannot verify the food available but on the Wetherspoons app there appears to be an enormous choice. The app also lists the drinks available.

Finding Us Inside The Pub

The plan once again is to meet at one of the upstairs rooms from 6.30 p.m. onward. In the event of there being no tables available upstairs (as was the case last month) we aim to meet in one of the rooms at the back of the ground floor. We will try to have a large note on the table with ‘London Reconnections’ and/or a suitable railway book on display in case there are those who do not know us. We suggest you initially try downstairs at the back and if we are not obviously there then try upstairs.

Look forward to seeing you there
